Don Rickles Biography
Don Rickles was an American stand-up comedian, author and actor. He was one the most highly-respected entertainment talent. His quick wit and humorous remarks, combined with his genuine concern for his audience, made him an irresistible combination that brought laughter, joy, and amusement. Because of his ability to make insults appear funny and non-offensive, he was a regular on celebrity roasts. His insults were often hurtful and mean but he was able to make the receiver laugh. He began his career in comedy with a variety of prepared jokes. However, he discovered that audiences liked his spontaneous insults over traditional material. His unique style of comedy drew him many of his fans, which included the great Frank Sinatra. In addition to appearing in numerous television and film shows, he also released two comedy albums. He received many honors, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from 'The Comedy Awards'. Don Rickles only had small roles on television following his graduation. He began doing stand-up comedy to increase his earnings, and eventually establishing his "insult comedian" persona. The 1970s began by playing a major role in the hit movie "Kelly's Heroes" (1970) in which he starred Clint Eastwood. He made several appearances on television comedy shows like The Dean Martin Roasts' (1973) or The Don Rickles Program' (1972). Don Rickles married Barbara Sklar on March 14 in 1965. The couple had two kids: daughter Mindy and son Larry. Their son passed away in the year the year 2011. His most cherished friend was Bob Newhart and the two often went on vacation with their wives. They appeared on many shows including "Newhart" as well as Don Rickles died from kidney failure on the 6th of April, 2017 in his Beverly Hills, California, home.
