Rosie Perez
Rosie Perez was born in Bushwick, Brooklyn, New York City, to Lydia Perez and Ismael Serrano Merchant marine. She is Puerto Rican. Rosie has graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in Ridgewood in Queens, New York. After that, she was enrolled in Los Angeles City College. Rosie Perez, who was in her second year at college she was planning to relocate back to New York. Her friends had invited her to a party to celebrate. The moment Spike Lee proposed that she take part in his film Do the Right Thing (1989), she agreed. It was her first big acting job. She was later nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her part as Carla Rodrigo (Peter Weir’s Fearless, 1993). (She lost to Anna Paquin for The Piano (1993). The Latin community was at the center of most of my criticism at the beginning of my career. They would invite me to lunch and say, "Can I go and learn some lessons so that I can lessen my accent?" Or, "When you're on a talk show, how can you not not be humorous and loud?". I received a lot of criticism about my voice, and I tried. While I tried to alter my voice, it wasn't the way that I spoke. As I got older the octaves dropped and I am grateful for that. Boxing is all about conquering your fears. It's about being confident. It's really bizarre.
